Quest' anno ad Agosto, è avvenuto un evento molto particolare : nel giardino botanico di Brookly, è fiorito il fiore più grande del mondo,l' Amorphophallus Titanum (aro titanto od aro gigante). E' un particolare tipo di fiore originario dell' Isola di Sumatra e somiglia ad un grande calice, dal diametro di circa un metro di color rosso fegato e aspetto vellutato. Detiene anche il record di fiore più colossale del mondo visto che raggiunge anche i 46 kg di peso. Questo particolare tipo di fiore, viene anche chiamato "fiore cadavere" perchè ha un peculiarità : ha un odore insopportabile durante la fioritura, definito da molti ricercatori e appasionati, identificabile come un misto di sterco e materia organica in putrefazione. La fioritura di questo gigante,è stata affidata ad un giardiniere italiano, Alessandro Chiari e sul sito internet del Brooklyn Botanic Garden, oltre ad ammirare altre immagini del fiore, si può vedere un piccolo video riguardante la fioritura del fiore, che è durata solo 3 giorni. Di certo, meglio evitare l' Amorphophallus come omaggio floreale !
